BSNL launches one paisa scheme

On the lines of private telecommunication companies, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has implemented a one paisa per second call scheme for prepaid cellular phone customers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, BSNL sources said.

The scheme, implemented at midnight last night, would entail a fee of Rs 1.50 per day. The rate would be applicable on all calls on BSNL and other networks while the rate for STD would be two paise per second.

BSNL employees demand wage hike, go on strike

Around 270,000 employees of state-run telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) went on strike for two days starting Wednesday, demanding a bigger hike in wages than had been offered.

"Around 20,000 BSNL engineers and 250,000 group C and D employees have gone on a strike for two days (Aug 19, 20)," senior member of BSNL Employees Union Dilip Das told IANS.

Altogether nine BSNL unions have gone on strike among which BSNL Employees Union is the largest one. All the nine unions are striking together under a conglomerate body -- The United Forum of BSNL Unions.

Apart from a higher wage hike than the management had offered, the other demands are regularisation of casual contract labourers and implementation of promotion policy.

"This large scale strike would definitely affect services to the customers," said Bipin Guha, a BSNL customer in the city.

Soumya Roy, chief general manager, West Bengal Circle of BSNL, told IANS: "This strike will affect services to some extent. But we are addressing major equipment faults in the state immediately."

BSNL, Novatium jointly launch computing service

In a bid to make computing and internet an affordable and hassle-free experience, the public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), in collaboration with Novatium Solutions Private Limited (NSPL), today launched ''BSNL NOVA net PC service'' in Andhra Pradesh circle.

Addressing a joint press conference here, BSNL AP Circle Chief General Manager T N Sudhindra Kumar and NSPL Chief Technical Officer Vinod Kumar said the device along with BSNL broadband connection will enable customers to access value-added services, including internet, downloading of documents through acrobat pdf viewer, education, news, entertainment and games for offline play, round the clock through Novell optimized open office.

''The BSNL will provide modem for broadband connection free of cost,'' the CGM said.

The customers with an initial investment of Rs 3,900 and recurring monthly charge of Rs 193 could access internet and computing applications, hassel free, leaving any hardware and software problems for handling by the NSPL server functioning round-the-clock, the NSPL executive said.

BSNL to launch 3G mobile services in AP in August

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will provide 3G mobile services in Andhra Pradesh from the second week of August, BSNL state circle's Chief General Manager T N Sudhindra Kumar announced today.

''Installation of equipment is over. Networking of the equipment is going on and we will be able to provide 3G services by the second week of August,'' he told reporters here.

The third generation mobile service enables subscribers to access a range of upgraded services, including rich voice, data and video services.

It makes possible video streaming applications such as Live TV, movie downloads and high speed data download on mobile phones.

BSNL to launch 3-G, IPTV services in HP

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would launch 3-G Mobile and Internet Protocol Television Services in Himachal Pradesh soon.

Shimla is among 15 big cities where BSNL is launching 3G mobile services in the country.

State Circle CGM of BSNL, Mr Anil Kaushal said that 31 towers for the 3-G services were being installed at various parts of Shimla town.

After launching 3-G services, processing of data with high speed accuracy would be possible, video and films could be downloaded easily beside it would add the facility to display TV Channel on mobile sets, he added.

Mr Kaushal said that after successful test of IPTV, the facility would be launche initially in Shimla.
