Wipro Consumer Care launches new line of designer furnitures

The four year old furniture business of Wipro Consumer Care, a unit of IT major Wipro, today launched a new ''Startline'' designer furniture range targeting the ultra premium segment.

Designed by Tim Wallace, a London-based internationally acclaimed furniture designer, the new series would cater to roughly 40 per cent of the Rs 450 crore premium furniture segment in the country, Wipro Furniture vice president and head Parag Kulkarni told newsmen here today.

He said organised furniture market in the country was around Rs l,200 crore annually and within four years of entry, Wipro had already emerged among the top three.

A modular furniture, the Startline series had been designed keeping in mind the Indian market, though it had an international appeal. Its unique design would provide customers with wide options, he said, adding that Wirpo had applied for four patents under the Startline range.

The series would be manufactured at the state-of-the-art factory of Wipro Furniture at Aurangabad in Maharashtra.

Without giving any specific numbers, he said despite the downturn, the business had witnessed a double digit growth last year. Though it could not be said whether the crisis had bottomed out, the company had been receiving sizeable enquiries, especially from Mumbai, Mr Kulkarni said.

He said the company had also formed teams with both furniture and lighting division members to provide total solutions to customers.
