Toyota targets 100 bln yen cost cuts -- Nikkei

Toyota Motor Corp, the world's biggest automaker, is targeting 100 billion yen ($1.01 billion) in cost cuts for compact car production, the Nikkei business daily said on Sunday.

The move, which would target domestic manufacture of 1,000 to 1,800 c.c. vehicles such as the Corolla, would centre on consolidation of parts used by several different models and aims at increased efficiency in small car production in the face of forecasts of expanding demand for such models, the Nikkei added.

Toyota officials were not available for comment.
