On March 15, 2007, all roads lead to the ARC Polo Grounds for the Indiabulls International Polo Championship at the Mahalakshmi Race Course in Mumbai. Indiabulls is the title sponsor of a prestigious polo ‘Test’ between the national teams of India and Australia, the first of its kind in Mumbai.
The match is being organized by the Indian Polo Association and hosted by the Amateur Riders Club. The co-sponsor of the match is Chevrolet from General Motors. Other sponsors include Taj President - Mumbai, UB Group’s Kingfisher & Black dog brands, FHM India and GC watches.
Known as the ‘Game of Maharajas’, it is in India that this game was discovered and nurtured since the medieval times. Currently, Polo is played in over 60 countries and enjoyed by more than 50 million people each year. It is a prestigious, spectacular and lively sport that symbolizes the fusion between man and horse in an agile and elegant joust.
Sameer Gehlaut, Chairman, Indiabulls commented, “Over the past few years, Indiabulls has emerged as a strong, fast-moving player in the Indian business arena. Our presence across multiple sectors such as financial services, online broking services, real estate, retail and other sunrise segments requires a strong and nimble approach while maintaining the right balance, as we reach for our goal. This philosophy is quite similar to what is required in polo and that makes our association with polo a good fit with our brand.”
Adds Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors, "It is only fitting that polo and General Motors go hand in hand. This equestrian sport found its first widespread, contemporary footing in India and travelled to the world from here in the late 1800s. General Motors too has a historical association with India and is proud to support and encourage the popularity of polo here today. Polo as a sport and Chevrolet, our flagship brand in India, enjoy the same core values - heritage, class and performance. We are confident these synergies will work together to further propel the prospects of polo as a popular sport in India,"
This event promises to be a pulsating one with a mix of corporate honchos, sports personalities and glamour combined into one. The events include a fashion presentation by acclaimed designer Delna Poonawalla and a dare devil trick riding display by the ‘61st Cavalry’, the only ‘Horse Mounted’ Cavalry in the world. Also present will be three pipe bands by the army.
“We are proud to be a part of this prestigious tournament and be associated with the royal sport of Polo. We believe that this association is very relevant and important to us as Taj President keeps up to the pace of the new age traveler and has constantly upgraded itself to the growing demands and needs of its clientele, by providing them with international standards designer rooms and iconic F&B offerings. Similarly, Polo which is synonymous with speed has become a sport for young and elite, yet keeping its true essence of royalty alive,” states Mr. Pankaj Sampat, GM, Taj President.
Adds Farhad Dadyburjor, Editor, FHM India, adds, "Across the globe, FHM has always been a forerunner in associating with the best sporting action for men, and our association with the Indiabulls International Polo Tournament is an extension of that. We are delighted to be part of this prestigious tournament."
According to IvanaPerovic, CEO, Watches of Switzerland - Distributors of Gc Watches, “The power, prestige and precision of Gc watches synergises with the sport of Polo. We intend to commemorate the fusion of elegant Swiss Timepieces with the passion of a Royal sport.”
Quite apparently, no stone is left unturned to ensure that the audience is enthralled with an exhilarating environment. Finally, it is this fine fusion of business with sports, sprinkled with a dash of glamour, which makes this occasion truly memorable
