Internet Advertising Revenue Report: IAB-PWC

Recently the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) released Internet Ad spends report for the second quarter and the first six months of 2007 in US. The report clearly indicates the rise in the endorsement of online advertisement by advertisers.
Highlights of the report

* Total internet advertising revenue increased by 27 per cent to reach around $10 billion in the first six months of 2007 as compared to $7.9 billion the first half of 2006.

* Consumer related advertisers represented the largest category of Internet ad spending, as it contributed around 54 per cent of revenues for the first six months of 2007 or $5.4 billion as compared to $3.9 billion in 2006.

* In the second-quarter of 2007 total internet advertising spending recorded $ 5.1 billion in revenue. Consumer related advertising accounted to $2.8 billion.

* Consumer related category is led by Retail at 46 per cent in the first half of 2007 while Automotive ads contributed 21 per cent, Leisure (travel, hotel & hospitality) 13 per cent, Entertainment (music, film & TV entertainment) at 9 per cent of $5.4 billion.

* The second-largest category of spending is represented by financial services advertisers which accounted around 15 per cent ($1.5 billion) of ad spends in the first half of 2007, compared to $1.3 billion in 2006.

* Among the formats of advertising, Search advertising generated around $4.1 billion, display related advertising ($ 3.2 billion), classified advertisement ($ 1.7 billion) in the first half of 2007.
