ComEd Holiday Festival Sponsorships Celebrate Season, Save Energy

ComEd is illuminating the holidays while shedding light on energy efficiency through its sponsorship of several holiday festivals and exhibits.

ComEd will kick-off its holiday sponsorships on opening night Nov. 23 and a lighting trade-in event on Nov. 24 at Lincoln Park Zoo's ZooLights. On Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. ComEd will offer the first 500 people two sets of energy efficient LED lights, if they trade in two sets of traditional incandescent holiday lighting. ZooLights runs through Jan. 1.

"ComEd is proud to sponsor ZooLights for the sixth consecutive year, and bring to the event a focus on energy efficiency," said Sharon Hillman, vice president of Marketing and Environmental Programs for ComEd. "While we maintain our commitment to supporting family-friendly holiday events, we're also encouraging the use of lighting that conserves energy and saves money in the long-run."

Many of the LED lights will pay for themselves in four to five years as a result of the electricity savings, and they last seven times longer than traditional holiday lighting. LED holiday lighting also is very weather resistant and durable for outdoor use.

From now until Dec. 31, ComEd is promoting an additional $2 discount on each set of energy efficient holiday lights customers purchase at ComEd's Online Energy Store at http://www.comedcare.com/. That's in addition to the already deeply discounted price offered to customers who purchase items at the Online Energy Store. ComEd does not make any profit from these sales.

In addition to ZooLights, ComEd also is sponsoring these other holiday exhibits in northern Illinois:

Chicago Botanic Gardens Wonderland Express

ComEd is a major sponsor of the Chicago Botanic Garden's Wonderland Express lighting display. As a result of ComEd's involvement this is the first year the Chicago Botanic Garden is using energy efficient LED lighting -- 67,000 lights in all -- in portions of its display. The exhibit opens on Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. and runs through Jan. 6.

Brookfield Zoo's Holiday Magic

This marks the 26th year of Brookfield Zoo's Holiday Magic lighting festival. Zoo walkways will be illuminated with nearly one million twinkling lights. Activities will include ice-carving, carolers, a laser light show, "Sing to the Animals," and more. Holiday Magic opens Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. and runs through Dec. 31. Visit http://www.brookfieldzoo.org/ for more information.

Rockford Holiday Festival of Lights

ComEd is again partnering with the Holiday Festival of Lights. Opening ceremonies, including the Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be Nov. 25 at the Sinnissippi Gardens Greenhouse, adjacent to the beautiful Rock River. The festival runs through Dec. 30.

Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Holiday Showcase

The Sears Centre, an 11,000 seat multipurpose facility in Hoffman Estates is the home for the Holiday Showcase Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. ComEd is the lead sponsor of this event that will feature the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, performances by Cirque du Soleil entertainers and internationally competitive ice dancers. It also will feature the Holiday Festival Chorus featuring the Elgin Choral Union and the Elgin Children's Chorus, the Chicago Jazz Synchronized Ice Skating Troupe and more -- all hosted by Elgin area favorites, Diane Penning and Benjamin Brecher.

Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) , one of the nation's largest electric utilities with approximately 5.4 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
