MagnaChip Semiconductor, Ltd., a leading provider of analog and mixed signal semiconductor products for high volume consumer applications, today, announced that it will present four new power management products, for which samples are now available, at the 3GSM World Congress 2008 in Barcelona, Spain this week. These products include LDO regulator, Analog Switch IC for USB 2.0, and both a 30 and 40- volt Trench MOSFET for LCD television and mobile phone applications.

Sang Park, Chairman and CEO of MagnaChip Semiconductor, said, "We announced last November our entry to the power management market and have moved quickly to develop and market products as part of an overall strategy to leverage our leading analog and mixed signal technology platform to expand our market opportunity and meet more of our customers' needs. We are finding that our system level understanding of applications and strong customer relationships in Asia allow us to rapidly develop and customize products, as demonstrated by the speed with which we have developed these new products. We believe our entry to the market is timely, due to increasing market requirements for 'green,' energy-efficient products and applications."
The company's initial power management products are designed for applications such as mobile phones and LCD televisions and allow electronics manufacturers to achieve specific design goals of high efficiency and low standby power consumption. Going forward, MagnaChip expects to continue to expand its power solutions product portfolio through addition, for example, of more advanced DC-DC products.
Further, MagnaChip has built both its direct and indirect sales network for its new power solutions to facilitate rapid product distribution and has partnered with specialized packaging technology providers to deliver optimized solutions. MagnaChip's products will be manufactured on its 8-inch manufacturing lines, thus offering competitive value as compared to other solutions available in the market.

GSMA to Pilot a Carrier ENUM Service for Mobile Operators

NeuStar, Inc. (NYSE:NSR) announced today that the GSM Association (GSMA), the global trade association for mobile operators, is preparing to pilot a service that will simplify the transmission of instant messages, MMS, emails, video and other Internet Protocol (IP)-based communications between mobile phones and between mobile and fixed-line phones.
Following a competitive evaluation process, the GSMA has selected the clearinghouse and directory services provider NeuStar to manage the service on the GSMA's behalf.

Based on a Carrier ENUM approach, the GSMA, operators and NeuStar will pilot a Number Resolution Service (NRS) that automatically translates a phone number into an IP-based address, making it simple for users to initiate a wide range of IP-based communications via their existing phone numbers and contact books in their handsets. The system affords subscribers the same levels of control and privacy that they currently enjoy with existing telephone services.
The pilot will begin in the second quarter of 2008 as a forerunner to a commercial service to be launched later in the year. Participants in the pilot will include Bharti Airtel, mobilkom austria, Telekom Austria and Telenor. "Consumers are accustomed to making voice calls or sending text and picture messages using their existing phone numbers by simply selecting a contact from the menu in their handset," said Alex Sinclair, Chief Technology Officer of the GSMA. "Our NRS service will enable operators to extend the universal reach and ease of use of phone numbers to a much wider range of IP-based services, such as Instant Messaging and Video Share."
The GSMA's NRS service is a so-called Private or Carrier ENUM solution and will include a global master root directory. This will enable operators to exchange ENUM data via a common commercial and technical framework, facilitating the rollout and interconnection of IP-services across network boundaries. Based on tried and trusted Domain Name Server (DNS) technology, this Carrier ENUM service will enable operators to route and exchange IP traffic of any kind using telephone numbers.

GSMA Announces 13th Annual Global Mobile Award Winners

The 13th Annual GSMA Global Mobile Awards proved lucky for some, as the winners were announced last night at a glittering gala dinner in Barcelona, hosted by international comedian Graham Norton.
It was an evening full of stars and surprises, with a special guest appearance by legendary actor, director and Sundance Institute Founder and President, Robert Redford, introducing the GSMA's Mobile Entertainment Awards ahead of his keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress today (Mobile Backstage, Barcelona 13 February).
Awards were presented by actor, writer and producer Isabella Rossellini, Bollywood actress Sherlyn Chopra and, from the music world, Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am.

The 2008 GSMA Global Mobile Awards Winners can be viewed here: http://www.globalmobileawards.com/winners.shtml
Congratulating the winners, the GSMA's CEO Rob Conway said: "Each year as the influence of mobile communications spreads further to enhance more and more aspects of peoples' lives, the scope of the Awards become greater, and the competition becomes more intense as a result. Because the mobile world is such an amazing universe of opportunities, its gravitational forces are pulling other industries into its realm-internet, finance, advertising, music and film.
"Many of tonight's winners reflect that premise, and as we celebrate 20 years since the foundations for global mobile communication were laid, they demonstrate not only how far we have come, but also the limitless possibilities of where innovation and inspiration can take us in the years ahead."
Winners in the Technology category will be providing presentations of their successful entries in a special session at the Mobile World Congress this afternoon (13 February).
The Global Mobile Awards 2008 are sponsored by Qualcomm. Ericsson and Verisign are category sponsors.

3Roam(R) Announces World's First IP/MPLS MicrowaveRouter(R) for WiMAX Backhaul at Mobile World Congress 2008, Hall 2, Booth 2F49

3Roam announces the first microwave router to provide the WiMAX backhaul market with fiber like capabilities over the air. With 3Roam's MicrowaveRouter proven protocols such as IP/MPLS, already deployed in most operators' core networks, can now be extended to the backhaul network for enhancing quality of service and network availability.
By integrating microwave radio capabilities with full IP protocols, the 3Roam's MicrowaveRouter includes everything required for a complete backhaul network in areas where fiber is not available and too expensive to deploy.

"We have developed the first wireless router for WiMAX backhaul >> says Jean-Paul Deschamps, 3Roam CEO. "Thanks to the MicrowaveRouter, operators can now roll out triple play services over their networks with minimum latency and service disruption while reducing acquisition costs by half and optimising maintenance costs."
The MicrowaveRouter includes Wireless Label Switching to minimise packet overhead while significantly improving delays per hop and therefore reducing end to end latency. This brings two main advantages:

- MPLS can be operated in the backhaul network, eliminating the need for a stacking of external routers and microwave links which introduced too much packet overhead and were too expensive
- WiMAX Base Stations can be Synchronised Without the Need for Additional GPS Modules, Enabling Easier Coverage and Capacity Planning While Reducing Overall Costs

The MicrowaveRouter is a native packet based platform which operates at wire-speed performance. Several modules are available for various node configurations. It enables operators to plan for best network availability and roll out their network with various topologies such as mesh, ring or star. It operates in licensed radio frequencies from 6 to 38 GHz and supports up to six WiMAX sectors. It includes the full 3Route(R) software suite with IP/MPLS and advanced traffic provisioning. It provides easy radio links management and configuration through Command Line Interface, an integrated Web based tool or SNMP.

About 3Roam(R):
Based in Sophia-Antipolis, France, 3Roam develops and commercialises advanced products for radio and IP convergence. As a pioneer in wireless packet-based infrastructure solutions, 3Roam provides a range of high capacity microwave products enabling operators to deploy wire speed carrier grade networks, for the backhaul of WiMAX, TV broadcast or cellular base stations.
3Roam, 3Route, MicrowaveRouter are registered trademarks.
